Beverly Jean Nelson Woodworth, age 84, passed away at her home in Kodak, Tennessee on October 12, 2010. Â She was born in Stoughton on March 13, 1926, a daughter of Helmer and Mina Louise (Hermanson) Nelson. Â Bev graduated from Stoughton High School in 1944 and set out for Washington, DC, where she worked at the Pentagon for Generals Draper and Taylor, and Colonel Bruno, who were prosecutors at the Nuremberg Trials. Â Their law clerk was a young lawyer named William Rehnquist, who later became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Â Bev had a beautiful voice and sang with choirs in Washington, DC and Madison; she was also a soloist for many years at First Lutheran Church in Stoughton, where Tut' Kvamme was her choir director. Â She retired from UW Madison in 1980 and married Bill Woodworth the same year. Â They had 25 wonderful years together, playing golf at country clubs in Sparta and Black River Falls, WI. Â They also enjoyed their annual trips to Biloxi, Mississippi. Â Bev will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her adventurous spirit, her musical talents, and her love of golf and football, especially the Chicago Bears and the Wisconsin Badgers. Â She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Glenn) Bullock Cole, Kodak, TN; son, Kevin Bullock, Stoughton; step daughter, Peggy (Wally) Danz-Calkins, Redmond, WA; step sons, James (Barbara) of Marshall, David (Marilyn) of Kendall, William (Debbie) of Kendall, Tony (Joyce) of Sparta, Thomas (Ellen) of Sparta, Timothy of Sparta, Ted (Teresa) of Black River Falls, Michael of Lafayette, Indiana, and Pat (Amber) Woodworth of Black River Falls; 28 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; her brother, Richard Nelson of Oregon; and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; sister Clarice Severson; brother, Rodger Nelson; and step-daughter, Karen Brickner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with the Rev. Arne Walker of Gatlinburg, TN, officiating. Â A committal service at Riverside Cemetery will follow. Â The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
