Warrens/Stoughton-Birdie McCall died after a brief illness at the Skaalen Nursing Home at the age of 86. She was born April 18, 1925, daughter of Fred and Anna Crawford, one of 11 children.
She lived in Warrens Wisconsin until 1942 when she moved to Madison. There she worked as a cook and waitress and met Jack McCall whom she married in 1944. They moved to Stoughton and operated Jack and Birdie's Bar for 10 years. Then she worked for the Department of Transportation and as a Supervisor for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for 23 years before retiring.
Birdie loved to fish and work in her many flower and rose gardens. She loved to crochet, knit and do needle point. Her favorite place was her kitchen, where she loved to cook, sharing it with her friends and neighbors. She also belonged to the Covenant Church, Phythian Sisters, and Gold Star Wives and Disabled Veterans.
She is survived by one daughter Terri (Rob) Burkham, granddaughters Deanna Smith and Jennifer (Fonde) Bridges, and great grandchildren. Also, a special daughter, Frances (Dick) Nesbit and their children Gregory (Tammy) Nesbit, Lori (Chris) Robson, Mark (Nicky) Nesbit, and great grandchildren. She is further survived by sister, Irene Blomberg of Port Angeles, Washington, and brother, Frederick Crawford of Sparta, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (1969), her mother and father, brothers--Alex, Roland, Bernard, Bill Crawford, sisters--Violet Gysten, Mona Parkhurst, Eula Delap, Margaret Mikolajozyk, and dear friend, Earl Trow.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Covenant Lutheran Church, Stoughton, Wisconsin with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Petersen officiating. The family will greet friends at church on Tuesday from 10:00am until the time of service. Special thanks to Joyce and Roger Utermark. Memorials may be made to Covenant Church.
