Boleslaw Alfred Uminski

MIDDLETON- Boleslaw ""Bill"" Uminski, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009, at the age of 85, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Waunakee, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in South Boston, Massachusetts on August 17, 1923, the fourth child of John and Josephine Uminski. He attended school in South Boston and graduated from Mechanical Arts High School. He received an Associate Degree in Engineering from Waukesha Technical School in 1976, graduating with honors. March 2, 1945, Bill married Phyllis U'ren of Fennimore, WI in Trenton, New Jersey. Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force from 1943-1946. After Honorable Discharge, he lived in Fennimore, starting a family, moved to Waupun and worked for Waupun Prison System. He enjoyed a career with the University of Wisconsin- Madison as a police officer and following graduation from Waukesha he obtained a position with the University of Wisconsin- Madison as Assistant Safety Director and retired in 1982. Bill was a member of the Middleton Community Church, West Madison Rotary Club and Middleton Masonic Lodge. He made many trips to Poland to help re-establish Rotary Clubs and provide medical equipment donated by Meriter Hospital to Janov Lubelski Hospital in Poland. He made friends all over the world through travel for enjoyment and charity work. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis of Middleton; four children: Cynthia (Robert) Polan of Thiensville, WI, Dan Uminski of Middleton, Deb (Dave) Weber of Waunakee and Wendy Harris of Sun Prairie. He has ten grandchildren: Jennifer (Sadi) Harris, Jessica Polan, Joe (Tara) Uminski, Joan (Lonnie) Uminski-Riddle, Julie Uminski, Bryan Weber, Jeff (Linzey) Weber, Brooke (Dan) Webster, Billy (Jenna) Burkhalter, Katie Harris; and two very special great grandsons, Kaden Uminski and Finnian Riddle. He was loved and remembered by family, nieces, nephews and many friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; John and Josephine Uminski; sisters, Jenny and Irene; brother, Henry; niece, Irene and nephew, Billy, all of the Boston area. Also, a daughter-in-law, Susan Uminski of Middleton and an infant granddaughter, Rachel Burkhalter. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 6, 2009, at MIDDLETON COMMUNITY CHURCH, 645 Schewe Road, Middleton, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with full military honors will be at the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore, WI, on late Friday afternoon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the HospiceCare Foundation, Inc., Middleton Community Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
