Br. Domonic Leo Rothering

October 16, 1918 — March 15, 2009

On March 15, 2009, Brother Dominic Leo Rothering, O.P., died peacefully in his sleep at Blessed Sacrament Priory in Madison, Wisconsin.  Brother Dominic was the son of the late Leo Peter Rothering and Ethel LaBresh Rothering.  He was a native of Minnesota.  He is survived by his sister Doris Porter , Hopkins, MN; and 7 nieces and 1 nephew; and many grand and great grand nieces/nephews. He made his religious profession as a Dominican friar in 1946.  He served in Illinois, Kansas and Iowa before he was assigned to Blessed Sacrament Priory in Madison where he was the Director of Special Religious Education for many years and a tutor in the parish school until his health limited his ability to serve.  On October 16, 2008, he celebrated his 90th birthday with the children of the parish school.  He was devoted to young people and was noted for remembering all the children's birthdays with a card.  A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, March 20, 2009 at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2115  Rowley Avenue with Evening Prayer and Sharing of Memories at 6:30 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 21st at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH   followed by a luncheon.   Burial will be private in the Dominican Friars plot at Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dominican Retirement Fund or Blessed Sacrament School, 2116 Hollister Ave., Madison, WI, 53726.
