Brian Ketterer

July 20, 1976 — October 14, 2012

Madison - Brian Michael Ketterer lost his courageous battle against cancer on October 14, 2012. He will be remembered for his amazing smile, generosity, and selflessness.
Brian was born on July 20, 1976, in Madison, Wisconsin. He began playing hockey at age 5. He was a talented and admired player and continued to play through February of 2012, when his team won second place at the annual pond hockey tournament in Eagle River, Wisconsin. He graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 1995, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Edgewood College in 2000, and was working toward his Masters in Business Administration. He worked as a compliance officer for Baker Tilly Capital since 2004. Brian loved his job and was fortunate to work with wonderful people who were not only co-workers, but also dear friends. The kindness and support from Brian's "Baker Tilly" family meant the world to him.
On September 4, 2012, Brian married his high school homecoming date, Bronwyn Baldwin, whom he had known since middle school. Brian and Bronwyn shared a very special kind of love that endured the toughest of times. They were each other's soul mate, best friend, and "partner in crime." Brian adored his stepson, Riley, with whom he shared a special bond. Brian was so very proud of Riley and enjoyed getting him ready for his first hockey season. Brian patiently listened to Riley read to him and helped him learn his math work. Brian loved Riley as if he was his own.
Brian was the ultimate athlete and enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, biking, golfing, playing racquetball, tennis, and, of course, hockey. He cherished the moments he spent with his dog, Emma, walking her around Monona as well as visiting dog parks. He touched so many lives and will be deeply missed. His life was full and he savored much: good times, good friends, a loved one's touch.
Brian was preceded in death by his father figure and mentor, Robert Hurley; his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Dorothy Petras; his maternal aunt, Rosalind Fries; his maternal uncle, Paul Petras; his cousin A.J. Petras and his paternal grandfather, Andrew Ketterer. He is survived by his loving wife, Bronwyn; his stepson, Riley; his mother, Marilyn Ketterer; his brother Mark (Jennifer) Ketterer; his nephew, Hudson Ketterer; his mother and father-in-law, Kathie and David Baldwin; his sisters-in-law, Brooke (Peter) Tampa and Regan (Jason) Prell; his niece, Annika Prell; his nephew, Henry Prell and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Brian as if he was a part of their family. We are eternally grateful for Brian's amazing support network, especially Mary Goers, Ken Bjorklund, Brian Powers, Nate Voss, Steve Parish, and Gilda's Club.
