Stoughton- C. Kenneth Maas, age 89, died peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Skaalen Home. He was born on May 31, 1919 in rural Edgerton, the eldest son of Charles and Fannie (Pomeroy) Maas. Later the family moved to Stoughton where Ken graduated from Stoughton High School in 1937. He worked for Armor and Co. from 1936-1961. Following the close of the company Ken delivered milk for Johnson's Dairy mornings and the afternoons were spent working for Koltes and Keegan Hardware and Furniture. He became a full time fireman for the city of Stoughton from 1964 until his retirement in 1984 where he was treasurer for many years. Ken was a veteran of WWII serving with the United States Army from August 1941 through November of 1945, as a Tech. sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. He married Ila M. Schroeder on August 20, 1948 living first in Oregon and later in Stoughton where they raised their family together. Ken was an avid sports fan. He followed several professional and college teams but spent his summer Sundays watching the local home talent baseball league including Utica and later Albion. He further enjoyed camping with his family and playing many a game of euchre with friends and family. Ken is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Manson and Beverly (Wesley) Millar; six grandchildren, Janell (John) Julseth, William Manson and Peter, Marlie, Ellen and Renee Millar; three great grandchildren, Anthony and Alyssa Gomez and Jake Julseth, all of Stoughton; sister, Ruth Thomson of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son; one brother, Chet (Kay) Maas; and one sister, Dorothy (Clayton) Monson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, with Rev. David Brynelson officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon following the burial at the Stoughton American Legion Post 59. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the funeral home.Â
