Carl Sampson

Stoughton- Carl R. Sampson, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation. Lifelong Stoughton resident, Carl was born on June 16, 1926, the son of Carl and Kathryn Sampson. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1945. Carl was the stately and impeccably-dressed gentleman many people saw on a daily basis walking in Stoughton from his home on Hillside Avenue to various favorite locations around town. He worked the majority of his adult life as a salesclerk for several Stoughton establishments. Carl was well known for his eloquent reciting of the Gettysburg Address from memory which he has performed annually at the Stoughton Memorial Day observances since his junior year of high school. He was a devoted member of St. Ann Catholic Church and has served as an usher for over 60 years. Carl had a passion for history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with students and friends. He is survived by his niece, Nancy Cords of Mesa, Arizona; nephew, Paul (Linda) Schuh of Dallas, Georgia; and many great nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister; niece; two nephews; nephew-in-law, Robert Cords; two aunts; and four uncles. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 323 N. Van Buren Street, Stoughton. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass on Saturday at church.
