Carl Schorr, age 86 of Fitchburg, passed peacefully into the splendors of Heaven, on Friday, August 29 at Agrace HospiceCare, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Madison on November 26, 1927 to Marta and Moritz Schorr. Carl was married to the love of his life, Janet Morhoff for 62 years and together shared in the love of their 6 children, Patty Kubala (Tom), Talia Schorr (John), Karen Schorr, Tom Schorr (Margo), Leslie Johnson (Mark) and Tim Schorr. Carl began working at the age of 14 when Angie Wells, the school nurse at Highland Mendota School, found him in the streets skipping school. She told him he needed a job to keep out of trouble, and introduced him to her husband, Rufus. Having no children of their own, they took him under their wings, teaching him the printing trade. Carl purchased Wells Printing in 1963 from Rufus and spent the next fifty years devoting many hours working to make it a success. In 1989 he sold the business to his sons, Tom and Tim. The last three years of Carl's life were deemed the best retirement ever. His home was his castle, where he could sit in peace in the recliner, watching old movies (TCM) and the History channel. He was attended daily by one or more of his children, going into the office everyday, where he enjoyed the companionship of all the employees, especially the girls in the front office, Carrie, Liz and Suzie, who were so kind to him. Carl was a giving man, who loved to travel, and an animal lover through and through. His chief role at the print shop was taking care of the many dogs who came to work each day, especially the love given to him by his little dog, Molly, who now lives with Talia. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Moritz and Martha Schorr; his wife, Janet; brothers, Albert and Werner; and sister, Helen Ritter. He is survived by his children; his sister, Rosie McMahon of Madison; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. An informal service and storytelling will be held on Monday, September 15 from 5-7 pm at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Badger Honor Flight, Dane Co. Humane Society, or Agrace HospiceCare.
