Carl W. Weier

Deerfield- Carl W. Weier, 75, veteran, gardener and beloved brother, uncle, son-in-law and friend, died December 24, 2009 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison, WI near his home in Deerfield, WI.     Carl was born in Geneva, IL and raised in St. Charles, IL on his family's dairy farm.  He graduated from St. Charles High School where he played varsity basketball and was a member of Future Farmers of America.  He served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa and Korea from 1954 to 1956.  Following that he worked as a mechanic for Hugo Lose and Sons in Elgin, IL.  Most recently, he worked for Gullickson Trucking of Deerfield, WI as a long-haul driver.  Carl also proudly served as Commander of the Dane County Council of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.     He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Kellams (Harold) of Elgin, IL; his brother, Harry Weier (Jean Erickson) of Deerfield, WI; nieces Cynthia Kellams of Arlington, VA, Martha Yochum (John) of Elgin, IL, Pam Weier Nunes (Daryl) of Windsor, CA; nephews Jon Kellams (Karen) of Pensacola, FL and Michael Kellams (Colleen) of Traverse City, MI; two grandnieces and one grandnephew; his mother-in-law, Irene Gunderson of Deerfield, WI and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy (Sager) Weier and Harry T. Weier; and his wife, Charlene (Gunderson) Weier.     Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home at 201 Bue Street, Deerfield, WI, followed by a memorial service at 4 pm.    Interment will be at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dane County Council of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Deerfield American Legion or the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center (Madison).
