Carlos S. Marrero

August 10, 1984 — October 1, 2024

Carlos Marrero passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 at UW Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by family.

Carlos was born to Sandra Sherry Young and Sergio Marrero on August 10, 1984; on his Grandma Claramae’s and Granny Jake’s birthdays. He became their ‘birthday present’.

Carlos grew up in McFarland, WI and as a child loved many outdoor activities: biking, soccer, skiing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. He loved playing with his neighborhood friends, cousins, and playing video games. Carlos was a traveler, visiting his family in Miami frequently, places across the US, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, and Canada. He graduated from McFarland High School in 2002. After high school he started his long career working in home remodeling and construction; he was a master craftsman and artisan.

Carlos was a creative, kind, and helpful soul. As a caretaker, he looked after his grandparents during their final years. He cherished his beloved daughter, Maggie, and his family with his unique tender love. He was an artist with a passion to learn, read, and research. Other interests he enjoyed were gardening, cooking, music, and woodworking. He could tackle any project.

His family includes his parents, Sandra and Tom Young, Sergio and Amy Marrero; his daughter Magdalena (Maggie), fiance Nicki Fury, and her son, Maddex Rogers. His sisters and their families, Katie and Mitch Schaller, Grayson and Declan; Kayla and Corey Eliasson, and their father, Scott Potts.

His step family, Camila and Brian Martin; Ben and Abbey Weidenbeck, Carsyn and Lane; Claire and Kenan Goyette, Kason and Cameron.

Carlos has many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as the Ricobellis, our AFS family in New York and Argentina.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents Claramae Sherry and Earl Sherry, Servando and Isabel Marrero, Ofelia Marrero, and many dear great aunts and uncles.

Our family would like to especially thank the compassionate staff of the UW Hospital TLC Unit and the UW Organ and Tissue Donation Unit, who cared for Carlos and guided us on his organ donation journey. There will be a gofundme page shared soon for memorials and care of his family.

Visitation will be at the McFarland Lutheran Church, 5529 Marsh Rd., on Sunday, October 6th, from 1-3pm. A funeral service celebrating Carlos’ life will follow at 3:00pm with a luncheon gathering immediately after in the church. There will be a private burial service in McFarland, WI.
