Carol Ruth Cook, age 65, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday Nov. 13, 2013. Carol was born in Sacramento, CA on June 3, 1948 to Ralph and Norma (Barnum) Cook. Though she moved to the Midwest in her early 30's, she always considered herself a West coast girl.
Carol had a strong Christian faith which she lived and experienced in a quiet and personal way. She loved animals and was passionate about their welfare. As an English as a Second Language Educator, she was a strong advocate for her students and their families from all over the world. She always felt they taught her more than she taught them.
She loved reading, especially a good mystery; volunteering to care for animals; being a good "mom" to her cat Milo; playing her beautiful grand piano; and the many happy travel adventures with her husband Bill.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Bill Hollander; her stepdaughter Erin Hollander (Sharlene) of Janesville, WI; sister Janice Davis of Fair Oaks, CA; niece Margo Dunham (Kevin) of Sacramento, CA and nephew Douglas Little (Jennifer) of Staunton, VA along with their families; her aunt Mary Barnum of Framingham, MA; and her East coast cousins. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Linda Aide (Richard) of Waupun, WI, and Wilma Hollander of Gleason, WI, and Kristi Hart (Curt) of Potosi, WI, along with their families; and by friends she met and loved throughout her life.
Memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, Habitat for Humanity, Alzheimers and Dementia Alliance of SW Wisconsin, or a charity of your choice.
A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, December 8th at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 326 South Segoe Rd, Madison, Wisconsin.
"She is still ours to love . . . to remember and to hold in our hearts forever."
