Carol Maxine (Scott) Franz, age 91, died Thursday March 11, 2010. She was born on August 11, 1918 in Willoughby, Ohio, the daughter of Preston and Rachel (Carrel) Scott. Carol served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII, stationed in India. She was a 1939 graduate of the nursing school of St. Vincent's Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes in Willoughby and Cleveland until her retirement in 1985. In 1946 she was married to Reinhart John Franz, Jr., who passed away in 1972. She is survived by their son, John (Julie) Franz of Madison; her brother Gerald (Jane) Scott, of Mentor, Ohio; her grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Christensen of West Hartford, Connecticut, Nathan (Kathryn) Franz, of Washington, D.C., and Carolyn (Peter) Rank of Madison; great-grandchildren, Kendall and Jack Christensen and Anderson Franz; her cousin Virginia (Neil) Muehlhauser; and her wonderful niece and nephews and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews in the Scott family. She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Willoughby, Ohio, and then became an active member of St. Michael's Parish in Kenyon, Minnesota, when she moved there following her retirement, and Blessed Sacrament Parish in Madison upon moving here. Her family wishes to thank the kind and dedicated staff of the Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living Home for their loving service, and the tremendous nurses and social workers from HospiceCare, Inc. of Madison, who provided superb care and comfort. The family gathered to celebrate a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament on Friday, March 19th, and her remains will be laid to rest in Willoughby following a memorial there later this spring.
