Carol Hellickson

January 28, 1924 — January 15, 2012

Hellickson, Carol J.
Stoughton- Mom did not even want an obituary; the least we can do is keep it short. Carol Jeanette Hellickson, age 87, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. She was born on January 28, 1924, in Madison, the first of eight children to Severt and Marion (Stickle) Natvig.
Carol married Roland "Buddy" Hellickson on March 19, 1944, at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove, of which she was a lifelong member. Together, they farmed all of their married life.
Our mom and grandma was the kindest, most generous and caring person we ever met. As years of harvest will attest, Carol was a cooking genius. However, her most beloved time spent was caring for children, starting with her seven brothers and sisters on the Natvig family farm and continued through her great-grandchildren. Her message to her descendents is simply, "Just be happy and love each other."
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, David, Mary Roger, Philip and Severt; her husband Buddy and eldest son Howard.
Carol is survived by her brother Gerald and sister Joyce. Her legacy of life also includes four living children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her children are Russ (Nancy), Greg (Lee), Delaine, and Marilyn (Don) Viney; and daughter-in-law, Kaz.
At Carol's request, there will be graveside rites only, at Highland Memory Gardens in Cottage Grove at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 18th. Pastor, Craig Howard will officiate. She also requested that there be no flowers or gifts sent, but that any generosity be reflected in your personal gift to the charity of your choice. She also wanted to extend her gratitude to Agrace Hospice for their exceptional care at the end of her life. Finally, the family wishes to thank Marilyn for her years of loving devotion and care to her best friend, "Ma".
