Carol J. Johnson of Madison, WI passed away peacefully in her home on December 16, 2024, surrounded by family.
Carol was born on September 18, 1944, the daughter of Ray and Pearl Beightol. She grew up on the family farm in Juda, WI and graduated from Juda High School in 1962.
Carol married Richard (Dick) Johnson on April 16, 1966, at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, WI. Together they lived and raised their son, Eric, in Madison, WI.
Carol began a career in health care at the Monroe clinic, then continued to work at the Dean Clinic in Madison, where many lifelong friendships were made. She then began her second career, in financial services for close to 30 years at Thrivent Financial (formerly AAL) where she received numerous recognitions and served on several local and statewide board associations.
Carol had many talents she was proud of throughout her life; two notable highlights include representing Green County for the WI State Spelling Bee in 1958 and a hole-in-one at Spring Green golf course. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family and friends. Additionally, Carol was an active volunteer before her retirement at senior communities of both Oakwood Village and Attic Angel, while also serving her church leading the chancel guild and funeral luncheons.
Upon retirement, Carol enjoyed winters with Dick at their home in The Villages, FL, playing Mahjong with her dearest friends, attending Badger football games, hand making holiday and seasonal greeting cards, and knitting. Carol most enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her son, Eric (Meghan), grandchildren Ellington and Graham, sister Mildred (Marlow) Walters, brother David (Linda) Beightol, brothers in-law Ron (Carol) Johnson, Jon (Liz) Johnson, sister-in-law Susan (Harry) Friedli, nieces- Denise Putnam, Amy Walters, Jesscia Beightol, Tana Olson, Tracy Weiss, Shelly Longden, Kaia Draijer, and nephews- Jason Putnam, Todd Johnson, Scott Walters, and Jeff Walters.
Carol was preceded in death by Dick, parents Ray and Pearl, and sister Nancy Putnam.
Visitation for Carol will be held Saturday, January 4, at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd. Madison, WI 53711, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Carol’s name to Midvale Community Lutheran Church or Attic Angel Association General Fund.
