Carol M. Mathews, 91, Waunakee, WI died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Homestead Living in Waunakee. She was born July 23, 1926 in Green Bay to the late Earl and Kathryn (Mande) Speerschneider. She graduated from Green Bay East High School and worked for a time as a legal secretary. On October 9, 1948, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) L. Mathews at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay. She was member of Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church before moving to Waunakee in 2012. She loved to golf and was a member of Brown County and Wander Springs Golf Courses. She and Bob often travelled to Mississippi for winter golf vacations. She was also an avid bridge player and met weekly with her Thursday night card club. When she was 70 years old she took her first trip abroad, visiting London with her daughter Susan. She and Susan, subsequently traveled to Belgium, England, France and Italy. Highlights of her travels were a trip to Paris with her daughters and a return to London with the ladies of the family.
Her husband Bob predeceased her in 2003 and she missed him every day after. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan Mathews (Sheboygan), Mary and Cleve Sibley (Marathon FL) and Ellen and Ted Heiser (Waunakee); and one son and daughter-in-law, John and Carrie Mathews (Oregon WI). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew Mathews, Katie (Rob'e) Mitchell, Laura (Brendon) Lewis and Ben (Ashley) Heiser and four great grand-children, Alaina, Connor, Grace and Jolene.
She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law and her brother-in-law Helen and Tony Thorn and her brother-in-law Gene (Sally) Mathews and her niece Julie Speerschneider. She is survived by her brothers and their wives, Jim (Pat) Speerschneider, Chuck (Mary) Speerschneider and David (Marilyn) Speerschneider, another sister-in-law, Joan Hansen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cress Funeral Services is handling cremation arrangements. A memorial gathering is being planned for a later date. A memorial fund in her name has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
