Carol Roberts

Waunakee- Carol J. (Matlack) Roberts, age 78, died on September 10, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on May 13, 1936 in Landusky, Montana to Marian (Doney) and Wilbur Matlack. She graduated from Chinook High School in Chinook, Montana in 1953 and joined the US Navy WAVES. She served until 1955. It was in the military that she met her husband of 59 years, Frank C. Roberts, who served in the Marines. They were married on June 10, 1955. She and Frank raised their three children in Round Lake, Illinois. During their time in Illinois, she became an avid Bears and Cubs fan. They also lived in Waukegan, Illinois, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Warwick, Rhode Island before coming to Waunakee, Wisconsin. Carol took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an accomplished knitter and loved making sweaters and baby blankets for her family. Her pies were a family treasure. She was warm and friendly to everyone and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Carol is survived by her sister Marilyn, her brothers Theodore and John, her husband Frank, her children Susan (David) Peterson. Steven (Cheryl) Roberts, and Darrel (Diane) Roberts, her special daughter-in-law Georgeanne Roberts, her grandchildren Ashley (Joshua) Shreve, Claire (Brandon) Vaidyanathan, Logan (Robert) Dewar, Marin Peterson, Melissa (Jeremy) Hodson, Brett (Jeanine) Roberts, Jared Roberts, and Samantha Roberts, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers James and Samuel, her sisters Joanne and Jill, and her great-granddaughter Nora Caroline Shreve.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Monday, September 15, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Vince Brewer presiding. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and at church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the mass.
