Carol Smith returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and her beloved husband Kevin, on January 23, 2019.
Born in Chicago on March 5, 1943, she was welcomed by her parents, Irving A. Bendel and Virginia Bendel (nèe Corbett). Carol lived on the north side of Chicago near Wrigleyville until she moved to Skokie as a young woman. There she met the love of her life, Kevin.
Carol was a remarkable person with a lifelong passion for learning. She was a wonderful teacher, and taught computer classes at the College of DuPage and later at Madison Area Technical College.
She was an artist who was specifically talented at painting life-life bird models, for which she won numerous awards. She decided to reinvent herself and went back to school to become a massage therapist, which she practiced for years, often providing free care for those less fortunate.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carol was generous with her time, volunteering to teach others how to do genealogy. She fed the missionaries at her famous Friday night pizza gatherings and was generous to all she knew.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ross, and by her dear husband Kevin June 10, 2000. She is survived by her brother, Bruce Bendel, nieces Jennifer (Jason) Peer and Lauren Bendel, and a nephew, Justin Bendel.
A memorial service will be held on February 9th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4505 Regent Street, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dane County Area Genealogical Society in Carol's memory.
