Carolyn Hildegard Mohoney

Madison - Carolyn Hildegard Mohoney, age 76 of Madison, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 4, 2010. She was called home to Heaven to rejoin those who preceded her in death; her son Billy in 1959, her husband Jim in 1983 and her parents Walter and Hildegard in 1973 and 1984. She was born on May 23, 1934 at Madison General Hospital, the daughter of Walter and Hildegard Kopp who emigrated from Germany in 1923. She was a 1952 graduate of Madison West High School. Carolyn and the late Jim Mohoney were married in 1953. Carolyn grew up with her four brothers in the neighborhoods near downtown and near Westside. She was active in the gymnastic programs of the Madison Turner Club and they often traveled to Milwaukee and Chicago for Turner competitions. She enjoyed working for Gimbels and Marshall Fields for over 30 years where her kind and thoughtful manner endeared her to numerous coworkers and customers. Throughout her lifetime Carolyn was constantly sacrificing and dedicating her efforts to ensure her six children and nineteen grandchildren were safe, having fun and being active. She attended countless baseball, basketball, hockey, football and soccer games; dance recitals and school functions and was very proud of every one of us. She loved the Badgers, enjoyed the Brewers and Bucks and was devastated when the Packers traded Brett Favre. Mom was terrified of storms of any kind and was quick to call each of us to make sure we were safe. She actually enjoyed cleaning all of our messes and babysat her grandkids on a moment's notice and never ever complained. She was extremely proud that all of her kids graduated from UW-Madison. Carolyn is survived by her son Mike (Sue) Mohoney (Kevin, Chris, Marisa & Jason); son Jim (Mary Beth) Mohoney (Abigail, Matthew & Stuart); daughter Jill (Les) Grauer (Nolan, Eliot & Lydia); daughter Jackie (Lexi) Doner (Ryan, Molly, Melanie, Max, Ian & Lexi); son Gary (Kim) Mohoney (Sam, Alex & Jacob) and brothers Robert (Harriet) Kopp, Richard (Colleen) Kopp (the late Dotty), Paul (Judy)Kopp and  Wally (Ninfa) Kopp, sister-in laws Lois (Al) Karow & Kay Mohoney,   brother-in-law Tom (Cheri) Mohoney and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Carolyn will be held at 12 noon at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison on Friday, Nov 12, 2010. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery following the service.
