MADISON
Carroll L. Chilton, age 86, of Madison went to be with his Lord on Friday, July 28, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born on September 19, 1930 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Joseph E. Chilton, Sr. and Pauline (Sensentaffer) Chilton.
An accomplished pianist who performed both in the United States and Europe, Carroll was a longtime member of the Music Faculty at the University of Wisconsin - Madison prior to retiring in 2002. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Colorado and his Masters of Music Degree in Piano from Indiana University. He went on to do further study in New York and Detmold, Germany as a Fulbright Scholar. Prior to coming to the University of Wisconsin he taught at Iowa State University. He also served in the US Army, being stationed in Germany after World War II. Carroll was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Madison and is survived by his nephew David Chilton and niece Amy Perrine. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph E. Chilton, Jr.
A memorial service for Carroll will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. A private burial service was held on Monday, July 31 at Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, 602 Diving Hawk Trail, Madison, WI 53713.
