CATHY A. (CARTY) FLEURY
Sun Prairie, WI. Cathy was born in Bristow, Oklahoma on October 29th, 1961, and she peacefully passed away on October 23rd, 2021, in Madison, Wisconsin enveloped in love and prayers from her family and friends.
Cathy, the third child of Myrna and Chuck (Rico) Carty, spent most of her early years living in Sun Prairie. She was a free spirit, the Queen of Mischief, and a forever Hippie, who had a loving heart that was passionate about spending time with her family and friends. She was laid back and easy going with one of her favorite mantras being “it is what it is chickiepoo.” She was usually out and about town with her sidekick Cindy and was the second “mother” to her nieces Alexa and Devan who often turned to her for support, love, and laughter. She had a special relationship with everyone she knew, and she will be greatly missed.
Cathy graduated from the University of Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in human services, whereby she went to work as the manager of a group home of adult down syndrome ladies for several years before following in her father’s footsteps and began working for General Telephone. She married the love of her life, Jack Fleury, in Negril, Jamaica on April 24th, 1997, at the Poinciana Beach Resort followed by a reception for family and friends at the VFW in Sun Prairie, where she was a lifetime Ladies Auxiliary member. Over the course of their marriage, they enjoyed many vacations in the Caribbean including Jamaica, Aruba, and Mexico; attending games and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers; as well as going to many racing events including the Brickyard 500 and the Indianapolis 500 with the McGovern’s, her Other Family, as she lovingly called them. She retired from the phone company in January of 2020 after working there for 32.5 years. She greatly enjoyed her last several vacations with friends that included trips to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.
Cathy is survived by her sister Cindy (Doug) Tracy, brother Mike Carty, sister Jill Bratton, and nieces Alexa Tracy, Devan Tracy, Jami Anderson, and nephew Dylan (Angela) Anderson as well as great nephew Tyler, and great nieces Kylee, Remington, and Brynn.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Carty.
The family would like to send love and hugs to Maurit, RN and Chaplains Nicole and Monica at Meriter Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Cathy and the family.
