Marquette, Michigan / Apache Junction, Arizona / Madison, Wisconsin -- Charles (Chuck) Udell Brock, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Oakwood Village West, while rehabbing from a recent fall. Chuck was born on February 20, 1915 to Glenn and Algia (Udall) Brock in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood Michigan where he was involved in the ROTC. Before joining the Army during WWII, he married his first wife Helen (who died of leukemia in 1963). During the war he helped train and prepare soldiers who were involved in D-Day. He was later shipped to the Philippines and served there as well. Chuck and Helen had two children together, Charles and Robert.
Chuck later married Germaine (Gerry) McGee and moved to Marquette, Michigan. He worked for many years at the Tracy Mine for the J and L Corporation and was later employed by Letts Drywall. Chuck was very involved in the B.P.O.E. (or Elks). He served locally in Negaunee, Michigan as the Exalted Ruler and for several years as their secretary. He won both local and state awards for his service. He was also a member of the VFW.
Chuck and Gerry retired to Apache Junction, Arizona, where they enjoyed the sunshine and friendly neighbors. Chuck was an active member of the Episcopal Church in Michigan and Arizona. His hobbies included photography, golf and woodworking. He and Gerry traveled extensively, including all 50 states, Brazil, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, the British Isles, Panama Canal, Mexico, Canada, and the Scandinavian countries. They concluded their travel by going to China, where they walked on the Great Wall. After their traveling days were over, they re-located to Madison to live with their daughter, Kathy McGee.
Charles is survived by his wife, Germaine (McGee) Brock; children, Charles J. Brock, Larry (Pat) McGee, Robert (Judy) Brock and Kathleen McGee; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Algia Brock; a sister, Leona Nash; his first wife, Helen (Mrdjenovich) Brock; and sons, Michael McGee and Stephen McGee.
