Charles B. Cameron, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 13, 2009 in a Madison hospital. He was born October 23, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Donald and Bess (Barton) Cameron.  After high school, Chuck enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy in Florida he contracted polio, and was medically retired from the service in 1954. While attending Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Chuck met Sherry Stark, and on December 17, 1955, they were  united in marriage. Their family grew to include  four children: Pam (Brad ) Sayler of Colorado, Scott (Janice) Cameron, Cindy (Dale) Fix and Jon (Marla Hollander) Cameron all of Madison; four grandchildren: Gary and Jennifer Cameron and Guanshan and Kavi Fix. Chuck is also survived by one brother: Donald (Violet) Cameron and one sister: Mary (Dale Olson) Nelson both of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Byron.  Chuck was proud of his forty years of employment in the U.S Forest Service, and it fostered a life-long love of nature and travel, which he shared with his family up until the time of his passing. His affable good nature and willingness to talk with practically anybody about practically anything meant that there were no strangers in Chuck's life, only friends he had not yet met. From Philadelphia to Dallas to San Diego to Madison, there was hardly a zoo or botanical garden that didn't see Chuck making a new friend, over a beer or an ice cream or just a quick photo-shoot. He was known for a love of music in all its forms, both as an active participant in choral singing, and as a spectator of ballet, opera, and a wide variety of instrumental and vocal performances. From Broadway musicals to local productions, from jazz to classical and everything in between, Chuck loved it all, and was seldom without a song in his heart.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 24th,  at OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, where friends may call from 9:30 am until time of service.  Pastor Julie Krahn will officiate.  Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie or Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Fitchburg. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff on the fifth floor of St. Mary's Hospital for their gentle care of Chuck in his final hours.
