Deforest - Charles F. Duane April 14, 1927 - December 4, 2012
Charles' final wish: to die at home, as a gentleman and with dignity, was granted; surrounded by his family on Tuesday morning.
Charles "Chuck" enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, designing and building radio-controlled airplanes, fishing, music, electronics, photography and reading. He served in the US Army medical corps from 1945 to 1948 and married his high school sweetheart, Delores M. Rector on February 10, 1946. Following service to his country, they moved back to Madison to raise their family of five children. He retired from Oscar Mayer Foods and enjoyed many memorable years on the family's hobby farm near South Leeds.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lois Duane; his wife of 50 years, Delores; son-in-law, James Schultz; brothers, Bernard, Ivan and John; sisters, Sandy, Marge and Frances and a great granddaughter, Alexa.
Surviving loved ones include: daughter Pam Schultz of DeForest (special friend, Ted Breunig), son Derek (Emily) of Poynette, daughter Marie (Ted) Glover of Westby, daughter Carol (Joe) Stanek of McFarland, son Steven (special friend, Rita Erickson) of DeForest, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and his beloved friend Gloria Hustad of DeForest. Surviving siblings are sisters, Gloria Duane and Jackie Turvey of Madison and brother, David also of Madison.
The family wishes to thank Agrace HospiceCare for their recent support and also wishes to thank all their friends and neighbors for their kindness, support and understanding over the past several weeks.
Schroeder-Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison is serving the family. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a memorial service at 1:00 PM. A luncheon will follow.
