Charles Kneip

April 19, 1939 — January 5, 2013

McFarland- Charles Max Kneip, age 73, died peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home in McFarland. Charlie was born in Appleton on April 19, 1939 to Max L. and Esther E. (Lutzow) Kneip. He attended Edison Grade School, Roosevelt Jr. High and Appleton Sr. High (West) graduating in 1957. Charlie then served four years in the U.S. Air Force, most of the time in Morocco, North Africa. After his discharge he worked in Appleton for the Wisconsin-Michigan Power Company. Charlie met Judith Anderson and they married on June 15, 1968. They moved to Madison so Charlie could attend UW-Madison. While in Madison he became involved with the startup and management of the Chi-Chi's Restaurant chain. In his later years Charlie worked at Walmart in Madison. He was a member of the American Legion. Charlie and Judy spent many summers up north near Townsend on Lake Archibald. Their love of the water led them to build their home on the Yahara River near Lake Kegonsa. Charlie enjoyed golfing, living by the water, and spending time with his granddaughters. He also liked having breakfast everyday at the Koffee Kup Restaurant in Stoughton with his friends. Charlie is survived by his son, David M. (Angie) Kneip; and daughter, Kelsey J. Kneip, both of McFarland; granddaughters, Breanna Kneip and Judith and Jaden Goecks of McFarland; brother, David C. (Ellen) Kneip of Menasha; sister-in-law, Patti Anderson Spatcher of West Bend; and nephew, Chris Anderson and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith Anderson Kneip in 1998; brother-in-law, Kent Anderson; mother-in-law, Jean Anderson; father-in-law, Donald Anderson; and brother, John L. Kneip. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon following the services at the Stoughton VFW Post 328. Private burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
