Charles Lewandowski passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016. Chuck was born May 11, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles and Rose (Buczek) Lewandowski. His family moved to Knowlton, Wis. in 1935. He graduated from Mosinee High School and attended Stevens Point State College. He was united in marriage to Leone Gorka on Aug. 10, 1950 in Knowlton.
He was a World War II veteran, serving on board the USS QUEST, a minesweeper operating out of Sasebo, Japan. He also served at naval stations in the Philippines after his ship was decommissioned at Subic Bay in 1946. Chuck was recalled in 1950 for the Korean War conflict and was assigned to the Navy Fleet Weather Center at the Naval Air Station in Agana, Guam. Leone joined him there in 1951 until they returned to the U. S. mainland upon his discharge in 1952. He was very proud of his naval service.
Chuck was employed by the American Society of Agronomy for 37 years, retiring in 1990. Chuck was an enthusiastic fan of the Chicago Cubs and UW Badgers.
