Charles O'Brien

Charles A. "Charlie" O'Brien passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at age 94. Charlie was born in Waterloo on November 22, 1917. Charlie attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament and graduated from Madison West High School. He was a member of the Army during WWII, awarded the Bronze star. He was member of the Army Reserves, 44th General Hospital until 1967. Charlie joined Dane County Traffic Department and retired as a Lt. Court Officer. He married Joyce Richgels in 1952, preceding him in death in 1979. Charlie was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church since 1924. Life member of the VFW Post #1318 and charter member of Madison Packer Backers.

Charlie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Pat & Kim; and two grandchildren, Dan & Karen. He was preceded in death by Leslie and Lydia (Ackerman) O'Brien and sister, Margaret. Visitation is 4-6pm, Sunday, Dec 18 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec 19, Blessed Sacrament Church, 2115 Rowley Ave, Madison with Fr. Patrick Norris, O.P. presiding. A visitation will be held from 4 until 6 pm on Sunday, Dec. 18, Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd. Madison and on Monday at church one hour prior to service. Burial rites will follow with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel.
