Charles Edward Pluth, age 86, of Madison passed away on Wednesday July 31, 2024, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI. Charles was born on September 19, 1937, in Bismark, ND, the son of Frank and Anna Pluth. He married Mardella Hoerauf on May 19, 1961, in Spokane, Washington.
Although Charles was born in Bismark, ND he grew up in Hebron, and was very active in the Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts of America. He attended Hebron High School and graduated from Hebron High in 1955. Following graduation, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1958. While in the Navy Charles served as a Sonar Specialist. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Charles moved to Spokane, Washington to work as an Atlas Missile System installer with General Dynamics Astronautics.
In May of 1961 Charles married Mardella M. Hoerauf, also from Hebron ND. During their 63 years of marriage Charles and Mardella became the proud parents of three daughters Barbara, Connie and Christine.
Charles had a great interest in the field of Electrical Engineering and that interest led him to enroll at the University of North Dakota from 1963 – 1967, graduating with an Electrical Engineering Degree. After graduation Charles was hired and began his 32-year career in the sales division of the Trane Company located in Madison, WI.
Some of Charles’s hobbies included Lapidary, jewelry design, silver smithing as well as being a Master Gem Facetor. He also enjoyed metal detecting, family genealogy and possessed a great knowledge of Native American artifacts.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Anna Pluth and also his brothers Harold and John Pluth.
Charles is survived by his wife Mardella (Hoerauf), daughters Barbara (Brian) Newlun, Connie (William) Sjulstad and Christine Flannery. Charles is also survived by a sister, Carlene Armstrong (Toby).
A memorial service for Charles will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME on 3610 Speedway Rd, Madison, WI 53705, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A time of gathering for family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorial donations be made to Agrace HospiceCare in honor of Charles.
