Charlotte Ann Lefert, age 61, passed away on February 16, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She was born February 25, 1950 in Amarillo, Texas to the late Joyce and Albert Townsend. At a young age she moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where she grew up. She received her B.S. from Indiana University and moved to Madison in 1972 to begin work at St. Mary's Hospital. It was there that she met her husband of 36 years, Gerald Lefert when he interviewed her for a job.
Charlotte was a Health Information Consultant for over 35 years. She was a nationally recognized coding educator and author of long-term care coding manuals. While Charlotte was passionate about her work with over 25 long-term care facilities, she had begun scaling back to spend more time with her family, including her four young grandchildren who she adored.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Gerald, two daughters Ann (John) and Katherine (Jon), four grandchildren (Augusta and Violet Davis and Hank and Georgia Murphy), her sister, Mary Townsend and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4 until 7pm on Monday, February 20, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, with a prayer service at 7 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Visitation will be from 10am until the time of Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Gerald and Charlotte Lefert Fund at St. Mary's Foundation which benefits families in need. Memorials can be sent to: St. Mary's Foundation, 700 South Park St, Madison, WI 53715.
