Stoughton- Chester M. Johnson ""Chet"", age 75, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. He was born in Madison on September 10, 1934, the son of Magnus and Bertha Johnson. Chet graduated from the Stoughton High School. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 until January 1957, with most of his time spent in Germany. On March 23, 1954 Chet married Helen Burgoyne. He worked for Ohmeda for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Chet enjoyed woodworking and spending time at the Stoughton Senior Center woodshop. He was a life member of First Lutheran Church. Chet is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen; three children, Rae Ann (Gurney) Pearsall, Caryl Karls and Jerry ( Alice) Johnson; three grandchildren, Lesli (Jeremy) Dietzman, Jenna Karls and John Pearsall; sister, Lorraine Foye; foster brother, Alvin Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin, Russell, Edward, Howard, Earl, Clarence and Stanley Johnson; sisters, Evelyn Nelson, Helen Dahl and Alyce Lynch; foster parents, Louis and Eleanor Gyland; foster sisters, Carol Gyland and Elaine Hermansen. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors, will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the burial. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the Stoughton Area Youth Center or to the Stoughton Senior Center. A special thank you to the staff of Friendship Circle of Skaalen Home.
