Christine L. Mayland

February 26, 1951 — June 6, 2009

MADISON -- Christine ""Chris"" L. Mayland, age 58, passed away on June 6, 2009 at the UW Hospital Palliative Care Unit.   Christine was born in Madison on February 26, 1951 to Arthur and Kathleen Mayland.       It has been said that God puts some people on this earth to teach others. Christine was one of these. She taught us love, patience, compassion, acceptance, and courage in the face of adversity.   Christine is survived by her loving and devoted parents, Art and Kathy Mayland of Madison; sisters, Nancy (Mark) Mackenzie of Madison and Dr. Diane Mayland (Michael Hennessy) of Green Bay; nieces, Mary Mackenzie of New York City, Margaret Mackenzie of Madison; nephew Austin Stephenson of Green Bay; and many extended relatives.   Christine was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harrison and Christine Mayland of Madison and Florence Boyer of Racine.   A Memorial Mass will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, at 11 A.M. on TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 2009, with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler presiding.   The family will greet friends at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of service.   The Mayland family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the UW Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care and Palliative Care Units for their compassionate care during the past few weeks.   Christine's family is also grateful to Christine's caregiver, Lydia Ngwe; longtime friend Mina Ehly; Sarah Karls of the Dane County Department of Human Services; and the staff and job coaches at Successful Work Options.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Successful Work Options, 2001 West Broadway, Madison, 53713; or to a charity of one's choice.   A VERY SPECIAL CHILD   A meeting was held quite far from earth ""It's time again for another birth,"" Said the angels to the Lord above, ""This special child will need much love.""   ""Her progress may seem very slow, Accomplishments she may not show, And she'll require extra care From the folks she meets way down there.""   ""She may not run or laugh or play, Her thoughts may seem quite far away. In many ways she won't adapt, And she'll be known as handicapped.""   ""So let's be careful where she's sent. We want her life to be content. Please Lord, find the parents who Will do a special job for you.""   ""They will not realize right away The leading role they're asked to play. But with this child sent from above Comes stronger faith and richer love.""   ""And soon they'll know the privilege given, In caring for this gift from heaven. Their precious charge so meek and mild, Is The Father's Very Special Child.""
