Chun Yu Yu, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 4, 2025 peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Born on March 13, 1926, in Hsinchu, Taiwan, she was the cherished daughter of Fu-Hai and Shi-Mei Yeh.
At the tender age of 16, Chun Yu met the love of her life, Chun Jung Yu. After graduating high school, Chun Yu embraced her calling as an elementary school teacher, nurturing young minds and imparting knowledge with kindness and dedication. Her life took a turn when Chun Jung was called to serve in the military during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. Upon his return, the couple united in marriage on August 15, 1947, and soon began their family, welcoming five daughters and one son into their loving home. Chun Yu and Chun Jung shared a spirit of adventure, traveling to Malaysia and Indonesia, where he worked as an engineer.
In 1977, they made the momentous decision to relocate to Madison, Wisconsin, where they opened a Chinese restaurant. Chun Yu proudly served as the head chef, delighting customers with her culinary talents. After closing the restaurant, she devoted herself to family life, nurturing her children and grandchildren with unwavering love and care. Though Chun Jung passed away in 2007, Chun Yu continued to embrace life fully, surrounded by friends and family who adored her. Her days were filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments.
She had a passion for cooking, traveling, knitting, and playing board games, and her home was always a welcoming haven for those she loved. Chun Yu was a wonderful, kind, and strong woman whose spirit touched the lives of many. She lived a life rich in love and joy, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her 6 children, 18 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. She will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love and strength, missed dearly but never forgotten.
