Clarence C. King, age 90, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on Monday, October 27, 2008 in Madison.  He entered military service in January 1941 as a Private and graduated from Officer Candidate school in 1943 and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant. .  He  served with the Army/Air Corps in Africa and Italy from 1943 through 1945, and was active in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America.  Mr. King graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving a Bachelor of Business  Administration degree in 1948.  Mr. King was employed by the University of Wisconsin for more than 38 years and retired in 1986 as an Officer and Director of Pre-Audit for the University of Wisconsin System.  Clarence was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, the Madison Elks Club, and Knights of Columbus.  He was active in the University of Wisconsin Credit Union, serving on may committees and served on the Board of Directors for many years.  After retirement Mr. King remained active in volunteer work with RSVP and other activities.  He traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico, and enjoyed traveling with his wife Irene.  They spent many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona and also took trips to Europe, New Zealand and Australia.  Clarence loved gardening, woodworking, and playing bridge.  For many years he gave lectures on making maple syrup to students at the Verona Grade School.  He was also actively involved in taking family movies and videos and produced many mementos for family members.  He was a member of the American Tree Growers Association and enjoyed managing his maple forest in Stratford, WI.  Survivors include his loving wife, Irene; two sons, Michael of Washington, MA, Richard (Sarah Brehm) of Spring Green, WI; two daughters, Barbara (Don) Hady, Sun Prairie, WI, and Rosemary (William) of Mesa, AZ; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.  He was preceded in death by his son Charles in 1972, his parents Conrad and Theresa, his twin sister Clara, and sisters Verna, Lorena, Ceila, Marcella, Cornelia and Angela (Betty), and brothers George, Alex, Norbert, Conrad and Richard.  Other survivors include three step-sons, William, Brian and Kevin Butler and a step-daughter, Maureen (Patrick) Maly.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at ST MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313  Flad Ave., Madison, WI.  Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until the time of service at the church.  The family would like to thank HospiceCare for their loving and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 5395 E.
