STOUGHTON—Clyde S. Cross, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. He was born on June 23, 1936 in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Ethel and Wayne Cross. He graduated from Appleton High School and went to North Central College in Naperville, IL followed by three years of seminary.
Clyde pastored churches in Viola, New Berlin, Waupun, Baraboo, and Stoughton, and he was the youth pastor for three United Methodist Churches in Fond du Lac.
Clyde belonged to many service groups and was on the Stoughton Hospital and Skaalen Retirement Home boards.
Clyde loved wood and had a passion for old chairs which he caned and refinished. His wife was not happy when he bought 14 of them at an auction!
Clyde’s favorite place was at a small cottage in the woods near Viola, WI.
Clyde is survived by his wife Mary Jo; children Robin (Keith) Lambert, David Cross, and Jeffrey (Mary “Jo”) Cross; grandchildren Timothy, Tyler, Jesse, Alicia, Trever, and Maresa; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister Betty Mauthe; brothers Jay (Stella) Cross and Ed Cross; and countless relatives and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Beck, brother Jim Cross, and brother-in-law Lou Mauthe.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00 am on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Stoughton United Methodist Church, 525 Lincoln Drive, Stoughton, WI 53589 with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 am.
