Constance Krolick

Madison - Constance Nuzum Krolick passed away peacefully on April 21, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born on December 31, 1922 in La Crosse, the daughter of Clinton Wright and Hope Munson Nuzum. Raised in Viroqua, Wisconsin during the hardship of the Depression and the 1930's, Connie always sought to help those who were less fortunate than her. She was a liberal in the best sense of the word. Having lived through World War II, Connie actively opposed our wars in South East Asia and the Middle East.

Connie attended Carlton College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Home Economics and Journalism. In her long career, Connie held positions as a primary school and home economics teacher. She was a project assistant at the UW School of Agriculture and director of activity programs for the developmentally disabled at MARC in Madison. Later she served as an adjudicator for the Social Security Administration handling disability claims.

Her leisure activities included playing bridge, singing in choral groups, cooking exotic meals at home and with cooking groups, traveling and avidly reading novels and everything concerning politics. Her activities were limited in the later years due to her loss of sight, but her room was filled with books and magazines on tape.

Connie always wanted to help those less fortunate than her. She was an active member of the First Unitarian Society of Madison. She was vice-president and board member of the Wisconsin affiliate of National Alliance on Mental Illness. Connie served on the board of Goodwill Industries in Madison and was a member of Cornucopia, an arts and activity center for consumers of mental health services.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Josephine Scott, and her daughter, Barbara.

She is survived by her sons, David and wife Carlie of Charlotte, Vermont; and Brian currently residing in Madison; nephews and niece, Norman Scott, Connie Scott, Robert Scott, and Clint Scott and their spouses, children and grandchildren.

Connie expressed her gratitude to her friends and family who assisted her through all of her illnesses and difficulties over the past several years.

Her remains will join family members in Viroqua.
