Chicago/Stoughton- Cora (Stai) Swanson, age 94, passed away at Skaalen Nursing & Rehab in Stoughton on Sunday, February 12, 2012. She was born in Stoughton on September 6, 1917 to Jens and Olava (Hoel) Stai. In 1936, Cora moved to Chicago to attend Nursing School. She married Robert 'Bob' Swanson in 1945. They remained in Chicago and joined the Immanuel Church. After her husband passed away, Cora decided to stay in Chicago, but she always made it back to Stoughton for special occasions. In 2003, Cora retired after 48 years of nursing. She is survived by her sister, Ruby Hansen, and brother, Clifford Stai, both of Stoughton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Skaalen Chapel, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton, with the Rev. James Koza officiating. The family will greet friends at the Skaalen chapel on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Stoughton. The family would like to thank the staff at Skaalen Nursing and Rehab on River Walk and Forest View for taking good care of Cora.
