Corinne Wakeman

Corinne Ruth Wakeman, age 97, was born in Marshall, Wisconsin, on December 5, 1923. She died on May 23, 2021.

Corinne loved her family and was much loved in return. She cared for many of her nieces and nephews as small children and stayed close to them in their adulthood. Favorite traditions included Christmas Eve at Corinne’s home for whole family. She enjoyed Brewer Baseball, Packer Football, the Vilas Park Zoo, travel films and going out for lunch.

Corinne worked for 39 years in the offices of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as chief for the State Aids Processing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madison since 1944. She was a member Eastern Star Melody Chapter 150, and a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Upon her retirement, Corinne volunteered at the Red Cross offices in Madison where she earned recognition for 2,000 plus hours of service.

Corinne was preceded in death by her parents Marlon R. Wakeman and Ruby Wakeman (Deppe), her sister Viola Krueger Hower, and her sister Gyneth Schmale (Wakeman).

She is survived by her sister Marcia Kartman (Robert). She will also be remembered by nieces and nephews Jerry Stein (Joni), Karen Knox (Joe), Rick Krueger (Jean), Jim Schmale (Linda), Steve Kartman (Susan), Sue Kartman (Cindy), Kay Neuenschwander (Steve), and Kris Penia (Ken) and their children and grandchildren.

A private service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, or American Red Cross.
