Cristin Valent

Beloved Mom. Sister. Grandma. Friend.

We will all miss Cristin Sue Valent (nee Heasley), our Cris, who passed on 12/11/20. She is survived by her daughter Laura (Ricardo) and granddaughter Ariana in Portland, OR, her sons Paul, in Williston, ND and Scott (Stephanie) in Golden, CO. and her brother John and sisters Cathy and Mary and their families, partner Scott Paskey, special friends Jean & Mike Valent and her nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Cris grew up in Madison, WI and attended Madison Memorial High School. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Teaching degree. In 1977, she married Lee Valent and had 3 children. They lived in Brookfield, WI until 2001 (except for three years in Indiana and five in Chicagoland for Lee’s job), when she returned to Sun Prairie and then Marshall.

Cris became a substitute teacher in the Sun Prairie School district until her retirement in 2018.

She loved her elementary school students. After retiring she dedicated her time to volunteering at Agrace, a nonprofit Hospice center. She helped at the gift shop then helped in their resale store. She loved working with the people there as well as loved to contribute to a cause that was dear to her heart since her mother passed many years ago.

Cris spent much of her free time doing detailed needlepoint. Sending cards, giving gifts and traditions like making Chex Mix every Christmas was another way she showed us her love. She also loved her dogs and gardening.

Despite her heart condition and fragile health in recent years, she joined in the family trips to National Parks and loved to sun herself in Mexico´s and be with her family. She kept her smile and rarely complained. And being a grandmother gave her joy and kept her going. We will miss her so much.

A memorial service will be planned at a future date when it is safe for family and close friends to gather. In the meantime, contributions made in her memory to Agrace Hospice Center at www.agrace.org or to Shelter From The Storm animal rescue, Madison at www.sftsrescue.org. will be appreciated.
