Curtis D. May

January 3, 1957 — December 11, 2009

Madison - Curtis D. May, better known as Curt or ""Mutt"", passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, December 11th.    Curt was born January 3, 1957 in Clinton, Iowa to Wayne and Saretta May.  After graduating from Clinton High School in 1975, Curt served 6 years in the United States Navy stationed in Virginia Beach.  He served as an Operations Specialist on several US Naval warships including his favorite, the USS Pensacola.  He greatly valued his military service and the opportunity to see the world.   After his discharge from the Navy in 1981, Curt continued to enjoy new places and people.  Over the course of his life he lived and worked in Texas, Iowa, Colorado, and Wisconsin and traveled across the United States.  Curt was an avid member of EAA and enjoyed all types of motorsports.  He participated in drag racing for several years at Cordova Motor Speedway in Cordova, IL.  If it had a motor and could go fast, he was a fan.

Curt's greatest joy in life was helping others.  Whether it was helping someone reach an item on the top shelf at the grocery store or digging out cars on a snowy day.  Curt was always ready to lend a hand.  He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Curt was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents and both parents.  He is survived by two sisters, Kim of Iowa and Kristi of California, and their families.  He is also survived by his life partner of 14 years, Deb Carstensen. A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, December 18, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison.  Military honors and a time of sharing will begin at 5:00 PM.
