Dale F. Doering

Stoughton- Dale F. Doering, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at home with his family by his side.   He was born in Gratiot, WI on August 24, 1916, a son of Fred and Blanch ( Lund) Doering.   On August 5, 1937, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Bancroft in Freeport, IL.   Dale graduated from the University of Platteville in 1939 and taught science and vocational agriculture for 20 years.   In 1951, he started the vocational agriculture program in Verona.   After finishing out his teaching career in Stoughton, he worked in the life insurance and securities sales field until his retirement.   During that time he received many awards.   Dale and his wife of almost 72 years enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and other countries, as well as square dancing and a good game of cards.   He was a member of Covenant Lutheran Church and a 50 year member of the Lions International Club, serving as Governor of Lions for District 27D at which time, he and his wife traveled to Japan as representatives of Lions International.   Dale received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1993, the highest honor conferred by the Lions Club Foundation.   Dale was a Past Master of Kegonsa Lodge #73 in Stoughton, and was a 32nd degree Mason.   He was a former secretary of the Stoughton Junior Fair, and a past member of the Stoughton School Board and the Stoughton City Band.   Dale is survived by his wife Eleanor; son Conrad (Alice); daughter, Priscilla (Peter) Dunn; 9 grandchildren, Vicki (Tim) Hayes, Mark (Leslie) Doering, Shari (Bill) Dreher, Traci (John) Danaher, Cindi (John) Murphey, Rick (Kathy) Maerz, Ronda (Terry) Grinde, Rachelle (Mike) Fiskey, and Colleen Marcussen (Brenda); 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; his brother, Paul; as well as many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Lillian and Geraldine; a sister-in-law, Sheila; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Vanderheyden.   Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11:00 am at Covenant Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Van Buren, Stoughton, with the Rev. Mark Petersen officiating.   A luncheon will follow services at church.   The family will greet friends on Friday, July 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, where a Masonic service will be held, following the visitation at 6:00pm.   Friends may call again at church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.   We would like to thank Hospice and especially Barbara, for the care shown to Dale and to us during his final hours.   Memorials may be made to Covenant Lutheran Church, or to HospiceCare.   Olson-Holzhuter-Cress 206 W Prospect Ave Stoughton 608-873-9244 www.CressFuneralService.com
