MADISON
In the early hours of Monday, July 25th, Daniel Eliot Grossberg died unexpectedly at home, the elder of Drs. Sidney and Josette Grossberg's two sons, brother to Leslie Grossberg, brother-in-law to Judy Kingsbury, and beloved of Linda Muller.
Known to us as a gentle, private, and refined person, Daniel had a broad social life, a charming man who became dear to many world-wide. By virtue of an intelligent and sensitive understanding, he possessed diverse interests, with particularly disciplined knowledge in labor history and literature. Throughout his life he was an enthusiast of music and an epicurean connoisseur.
His travels and interests led him to have friends far away, in Hong Kong, India, France, and Canada, as well as some who perhaps still ply the oceans and Great Lakes as he indeed once did. Schooling took him from University School in Milwaukee to Columbia University in New York to the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
For many years, Daniel was a devoted progressive activist. Subsequently, he developed a mastery of electronic publishing that led him and his businesses, Xpressions Publishing and Grapevine Publishing Services, to become sought-after in the industry. In the last years of his life, he graciously persevered against the formidable health challenges lung cancer imposed.
A remembrance event, open to all grateful for knowing Daniel, will be held at 7pm on September 26th at the Tempest (120 E Wilson St, Madison WI).
