Madison: Daniel Lloyd Orloff, age 92, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, from Oakwood Village - West.
He was born in a Michigan farmhouse on March 20, 1922, to Paul and Martha Lydia Orloff. The family moved to Milwaukee where Dan was baptized to a saving grace in Jesus at the young age of 10 and has since been a Christian example and inspiration to all who knew him.
He attended UW - Milwaukee for Mechanical Engineering, and then transferred to UW - Madison. His studies were interrupted by a call of duty during WWII. He was very proud of his role as a flight engineer instructor and test crew on B59 bombers.
He married the love of his life and Sunday school sweetheart, Ursula (Pommerening) on February 6, 1944, in Seattle, Washington.
After discharge, Dan earned his Bachelor's Degree and became an instructor at UW - Madison. After a few years with US Forest Products Lab, he began a 30 year career as a Design Engineer at Oscar Mayer. Much to Ursie's dismay he created miniatures of most of his ideas, many of which were donated to the UW Department of Engineering. He retired in 1985 and concentrated on his business making and repairing violins and string instruments, until 2002.
Dan is preceded in meeting his Savior by his parents, his wife of almost 63 years, Ursula, and his three sisters, Dorothy Hartfield, Laura Routley, and Polly Hahn.
He is survived by his brother, Phil (Norma) of Golden, Colorado, sons Howard (Corinne), Carl (Cindy), and Daniel R. (Linda), 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Christ.
Friends may greet the family from 5 until 8pm on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Memorial Baptist Church, 201 S. Main St. Verona, WI 53593. Please share a memory of Daniel at
