Daniel Arthur Plourde, age 74, died on October 10, 2021 after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer. He was born on October 29, 1946 in Rochelle, Illinois to J. Charles and Annette (Caron) Plourde.
Upon high school graduation, Dan enrolled at Northern Illinois University but after a year enlisted in the army which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following an honorable discharge, he returned to NIU where he met his future wife, Linda (Vogt). They were married on October 30, 1971.
Dan was a guy always on the move. He grew up playing tennis and hockey with siblings and cousins in the neighborhood park. He loved sports and was an avid Cubs, Blackhawks, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Northern Illinois Husky fan. He loved to travel, especially to the Caribbean, across the U. S., and the national parks. Friends meant the world to Dan whether it was traveling together, sharing a night out, or laughing over games and drinks. He especially cherished his fellow NIU Vets Club members and always looked forward to their annual get togethers.
Dan was the proud owner of Dan’s Pool and Spa Service for over 25 years and he would do anything to help his customers, often working evenings and weekends if needed.
The love of Dan’s life was Linda and their two boys, Jason and Daniel. Being a grandpa to Julia, Lyla, and Emily brought him great joy. A perfect day for Dan was attending or watching a sporting event with one of the boys or grilling pizzas and roasting s’mores over a campfire with the grand girls at his cabin in Door County.
Dan is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda, sons Jason (Nicole) and Daniel; granddaughters Julia, Lyla, and Emily; siblings Fernand (Dixie) Plourde, Lucie Nigrelli, Cecile Plourde, and Marcel(Judy) Plourde; in-laws Geri (Jim) Gately, Lynn Vogt, Kris Schaberger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
