Darlene Rose Phillips, 77 of Sun Prairie passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She had a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. She never gave up hope, she remained
eternally optimistic and continued to live her life to the fullest. This is how she was throughout
life, always with a big smile and everything was “great” to her. The show of support, and all the
visits during her battle meant so much to her.
She is survived by children Chad Phillips, Amy Phillips and husband Scott Kruchten,
stepchildren Scott Phillips and Todd Phillips, brothers Richard and Ken Elmer, sister Debra
Henry, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
husband Thomas Phillips, parents Delbert and Viola Elmer, stepchildren Steve and Cindy
Phillips.
She was born in the New Glarus area and eventually moved to Madison. She graduated from
Madison East High School. After marrying Tom, they moved to Sun Prairie where she lived for
45 years.
For 22 years she was co-owner of Baker’s Too and Copper Gable with her sister Debe. Both
locations were downtown Madison on the UW campus. She enjoyed baking as well as meeting
all the people who walked through the doors. She never met a stranger and seemed to always
know people wherever she traveled.
She will be greatly missed but always remembered. Her infectious smile and kind personality
were a joy to be around. She was a mom, Granny, neighbor, sister, friend, cousin and she could
light up a room. She filled our hearts and bellies with unconditional love and homemade treats.
A celebration of life will be held at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee, Oct. 16th from 3-6pm.
