Darrell Dyer

MADISON- Darrell E. Dyer, age 82, of Madison passed away on July 1, 2016 at home.
He was born in Madison on July 1, 1934 the son of the late William and Mernia (Haskins) Dyer, Sr. He married Margaret Crossen. Darrell was a loving husband and brother. Darrell was raised on the Southside and attended Longfellow Grade School and Madison Central High. He was employed with Madison Newspaper and Madison Metropolitan School District as a custodian. He retired from MMSD in 1998. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed talking with his sister, Shirley. He enjoyed classic country music especially Charley Pride and Hank Williams, Sr.
He is survived by siblings, William (Dona) Dyer, Jr, Shirley (Donald) Espen and Sharon Elliott Montenegro; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; parents; brothers, Charles; sisters, Minnie Bruckner, Donna Wold, Mernia Lund, Betty Dyer, and Beverly Dyer; brother's-in-law, Clyde Bruckner, Donald Lund and Peter Elliott.
He will be missed by his niece Lisa (David) Pliner, Nick and Erin. They visited him regularly.
A funeral service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
The family wants to thank all the staff members from Home Health United Hospice who cared for Darrell during his struggle with the Alzheimer's disease. Also, Dr. Clifford Anderson and all the staff members at Dean-St. Mary's for the care given to him during his time. Memorials may be given in Darrell's name to Home Health United Hospice.
