David Allwardt

August 4, 1953 — June 3, 2016

McFarland- David Lawrence Allwardt, age 62, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at his home. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 4, 1953, the son of Lawrence and Janet (Karlmann) Allwardt. David graduated from McFarland High School in 1971, where he was active in Academy D. In 1983 he received his Bachelor's degree in Theatre Lighting Design from UW-Madison. David worked for the State of WI Dept. of Health Services as a computer programmer/systems analyst for 28 years.

He married the love of his life, Amy, on August 2, 1997 at the Michigan State University Alumni Memorial Chapel, they enjoyed 19 wonderful years together.

David often talked about his family on their fishing trips to the Boundary Waters in Canada when he was a teenager. David played internet chess with people all over the world, and enjoyed the Cooking Channel. A life-long Badger fan, he had season tickets to the Wisconsin hockey games for more than two decades. He loved April because that's when Major League Baseball started for the season. July was the Tour de France. He would also look forward to August because that meant Badger and Packer football was starting, always saying that football made the season change to fall. He fondly gave the T.V. remote to his wife with every Olympic Games, because she was obsessed with watching everything she could. David was truly a year-round sports fan. And he loved live theatre. His wife took him to see Phantom of the Opera, where by the intermission he was in tears, talking about the glorious lighting design. David was unique.

David is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Amy; mother, Janet; mother-in-law, Ida; sister, Cynthia (Gary) Schoenike and their daughter Jill (Shane) Martin; brother Eric (Barb Estervig) Allwardt and their children John (fiancee Chelsea Beuscher) and Rebecca. David is further survived by his aunt, Patricia Verhalen; and sister-in-law, Margaret June. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence; uncle, Alfred "Skip" Karlmann; and brother-in-law, Lawrence June.

A Celebration of David's Life will be held from 12 noon until 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Maple Tree Supper Club in McFarland. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society, or to Stoughton Emergency Services.
