McFarland- David Bernard Bernhagen age 55 passed away at his parent's home in Lone Rock from lung cancer on Friday, January 2, 2009. Â David was born in Anchorage, Alaska on January 9, 1953 to Bud and JoAnn ( Kearney) Bernhagen. Â He had the wonderful opportunity to re-visit his birthplace with his parents in 2001. Â He grew up and attended school in McFarland and was very active in Boy Scouts. Â He enlisted in the Air Force on February 9, 1971 and was granted an honorable discharge. Â David loved working with his hands and held many jobs in his lifetime. Â He had a gift for creating beautiful wood cabinetry and macrame hangings that he shared with those he loved. Â David enjoyed helping others and opened his home for those in need. Â He is survived by his parents, 2 brothers, Dean of San Diego, Dwight (Desiree Ramos) of McFarland, a niece and God-Daughter, Leah and a nephew, Paul both of McFarland and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Â He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bernard Kearney, Art and Helen Zaemisch, his paternal grandparents, George and Evelyn Bernhagen, an infant nephew, Patrick. Â Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland with Pastor Steven Schneider officiating. Â Military Rites by the Madison Area Firing Squad will follow the ceremony. Â There will be a reception immediately following at the American Legion Hall in McFarland. Â The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
