Dave died. These are the only words Dave thought necessary beneath his photo. While they perfectly sum up his sense of humor and modesty, we'd like to tell more of his well-lived life.

David D. Chase, age 81, died on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born on May 11, 1936, in Madison, the second child of Theodore W. Sr. and Marcella (Dolan) Chase. He was united in marriage to Janet A. Tetzlaff on August 6, 1960 in Sun Prairie, Wis. She was the love of his life for 57 years and he dedicated his life to taking care of her. Together they raised two children, Stuart and Valerie.

Dave was a proud graduate of Sun Prairie High School, where he lettered in four sports. After high school he played football for Ripon College and was part of the '57 undefeated conference champions who where ranked second in the nation. He was also president of Theta Chi Fraternity. Following graduation from Ripon College, he was commissioned second lieutenant in the US Army. He served several years at the National Headquarters Selective Service System in Washington DC, receiving the second highest award for achievement. He retired as a colonel from the Wis. Army National Guard in 1996 after 30 years of service. After his active duty in DC, Dave had resumed his career at Chase Lumber, where served as president until his death. During his time as president of Chase Lumber, his leadership brought them numerous recognitions including "Outstanding Lumber Dealer of Year" by Associated Members of the WI Retail Lumberman's Association.

Dave was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family in Caribbean, dining out and supporting his grandkids. On the playing field or at school, Dave could be seen at every event sporting the Cardinal red and white. He will always be known for his lively conversations with his favorite waitstaff and his genuine interest in people's lives. He considered his employees family and took care of them as such. Dave will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
