David W. Crane

McFarland- David W. Crane, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010.  He was born in Baraboo on March 25, 1938, the son of Alvin and Stella (Astle) Crane.  David graduated from Baraboo High School in 1956.  On September 26, 1958 he married Kay Griffin in Dubuque, Iowa.  David worked for the phone company for 35 years and retired in 1991.  He moved to McFarland in 1970 and quickly became involved in the Village government serving over 20 years in various capacities including involvement on every committee, and serving as trustee and Village President.  David loved spending time with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed caring for his dogs and riding his horse.  David is survived by his two children, Russell (Patty) Crane and Cindy (Tim) Wendorf, both of McFarland; and three grandchildren, Katherine Esther Wendorf, Samantha Kay Crane and Evan Russell Crane.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kay; grandson, Thomas Wendorf; one brother; and one sister.  A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland.  Burial will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo at a later date.  A special thank you to David's sister-in-law, Linda Lokensgard, and friends, Dave Decker, Pat and Craig, for their love and support, and to the staff of HospiceCare Inc.
