David Crocker

April 17, 1929 — February 7, 2018

David Wm. Crocker of Madison, Wis., and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., passed away quietly at his Florida home surrounded by his family on February 7, 2018. David was born in Madison, Wis., on April 17, 1929, the son of Calvin and Catherine Wells Oppel Crocker, where he attended West High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dave joined the U.S. Army Infantry and served his country honorably in the Korean War.
When he returned home from the war, he married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Crocker, nee Laufenberg, with whom he spent many happy years. In later life, he served as her primary care giver and did so with great love and heart.

He loved sports- baseball, football, boxing and the game for which he was most passionate, golf. While working he never played fewer than two rounds a week, and after his retirement he often played four rounds or more. He loved Nakoma Golf Club where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and as its President. He and his bride wintered in Florida as members of Sugar Mill Country Club where their golf game, the golf channel and their golfing friends became their joyful winter pastime. Many stories at the family dinner table revolved around drives, approach shots, chips and putts.

David also loved the University of Wisconsin Athletic Program. A member of the Mendota Club and a season ticket holder, he enjoyed all of the Badger basketball and football games and did so with great passion and enthusiasm.

In the fall he enjoyed Wisconsin's beautiful upland fields in the company of dogs and the people who loved them, as did he.

He was a builder of homes. It is for this which he was the most proud. He once commented that he built more homes than there are residents in many of Wisconsin's cities. He believed you designed with the heart and built with the mind. He took great pride in the impact that his homes had on the lives of their owners. They housed families, hosted holidays, created memories and built wealth. This mattered to him.

David joined Midland Realty and Midland Builders, first as a real estate salesman and then as their Construction Manager and ultimately as their President and CEO. During this time the company grew and prospered employing and contracting with many people as hundreds of houses and apartments were built. He served on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Realtors Association and the National Builders Association. He attended many meetings throughout the country and particularly enjoyed the Home Builders Shows with Beverly.

He is survived by his children, Randall David (Kathleen Allen) Crocker and Mary Kay Crocker Roseneck (Rick), his three granddaughters, Rachel Wells Roseneck, Margaret Victoria Crocker, and Julia Bernadette Roseneck, his sister Catherine Wells Crocker Anderson, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service celebrating his life and his many memories will be held at Nakoma Golf Club on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST. Preceding the memorial there will be a private entombment at Forest Hill Cemetery.
