David Peter Haugen

David Peter Haugen, age 86 of Waunakee, WI passed away on Tuesday October 01, 2024, at Brightstar in Waunakee. He was born on December 28th, 1937, in Deforest, WI the son of Perry and Helen (Ballweg) Haugen.

David spent his entire life in the Waunakee area, the second oldest of eleven children on the family farm North of Waunakee.

David graduated from Waunakee High School in 1956, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football. While still in high school David enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard and served as a Medic in the 13th evac medical unit for 9 years earning an honorable discharge in 1965.

On June 19th, 1965, he married the love of his life Joyce Klemp at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waunakee.

David was a member St. John’s Catholic Church of Waunakee all his life. His faith was very important to him. 

As a result of his Grandfather Andrew Haugen, David started working at Chase Lumber in Deforest, WI. He had many different roles in his 40 years working at Chase Lumber. When he retired in 2005, he was Chase’s Store Manager.

David was a talented craftsman, building many treasured pieces over the years including the house he built in 1967 where he and Joyce raised their three children.

David enjoyed spending time playing euchre with his friends and family. He took many car and bus trips throughout the United States during his retirement. David was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Brewers, Green Bay Packers and any of the UW Madison sports. On game day, David would be seen with his favorite hat supporting his team. He also enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors over the years. 

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce (Klemp) and his children, Bridget (Robert King), David J. (Christy), Eric (Beckie), along with his grandchildren Alana and Mara King, Mariah, David G. and Ava Haugen, Oliver and Madilyn Haugen and his great granddaughter Zoey King.

He is further survived by his brothers Perry John Haugen and James Haugen, sisters Diane Frye, Bette (Ron) Duerst, Jean Haugen, Marilyn Whiting, Mary Kaye (Joe) Lashock and Nancy Zimmerman, along with his sister-n-law Phyliss Haugen and brother-in-law Victor Nolden.

David was preceded in death by his parents Perry and Helen Haugen, brother, Jerome Haugen, sister, Patti Nolden, brother-n-laws, Jim Frye, Bob Whiting, Jerry Zimmerman, Tom Schmiedlin and his sister-n-law Barbara Haugen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday Oct. 11,2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. A reception will follow at Rex’s Innkeeper in Waunakee.
